The Front Porch Swing
Sitting in the front porch swing,
With a cool wind in your face,
Can cause one to dream.
Of another time and place.
Back when times were simple,
Times you cannot replace,
Life was easy going then,
People moved a slower pace.
Swinging in the old porch swing,
Troubles seemed to fade,
And the problems of the day,
Could somehow be delayed.
The perfect place to sit and talk,
Are to wild away the hours,
To breath in all the country air,
And smell the garden flowers.
Sitting in the swing at twilight,
As darkness comes along,
Watching all the lightning bugs,
Listening to the crickets song.
Maybe your dear Grandma,
Sat in the swing with you,
And told you many stories,
Of all the things she knew.
There was always lots of gossip,
Coming from the old porch swing,
When neighbors got together,
You might hear most anything.
When I think of the old porch swing,
And all it does impart.
It leaves me with fond memories,
And a warm place in my heart.
